I believe that this may be one my last reports to you fine library patrons! We're nearing the completion of the building project and are anxious to get back into our regular "homes" again.
As you can see, progress is astonishing. Photo 1 shows the new Main Desk area. All of the service desks are being custom build to suit our library needs. This area was orignially the wall separating the old Children's Room with the fiction stacks. Hard to believe, isn't it? Behind the service desk is a small workroom where staff can work on projects and spread out a bit!
We've been saving these last two photos for a rainy day...and we haven't had one for quite some time! But today's the day! These are sure to put a smile of anyone's face.
Photo 2 is the unrecognizable Program Room ceiling that has been covered since 1970. It miraculously stayed intact and we are excited to announce that we're restoring and keeping this ceiling. Everyone who attends an event held in the Program Room will be able to enjoy this architectural treasure.
Photo 3 showcases the Reading Room ceiling, finally exposed after 45 years. It is in the process of being restored to its original grandeur. Before the 1970 renovation, the ceilings were painted with black paint (perhaps to help with lighting...we aren't sure) and then a drop ceiling was added. A very skilled team of workers stripped the paint and beautifully upheld the integrity of the wood. Now patching, sanding and varnishing are being completed. We can't wait for people to view this ceiling in person.
As a reminder, we will be closing again November 1st to complete the phase II final move of the library. Please click here for more information!
