We are pleased to announce that the Torrington Library has received a $650.00 grant from the Walmart Community Grant Program. These funds, given to support the Library’s Teen Room, and have enabled the purchase of a Teen Room Media Wall. The Teen Room Media Wall is a rolling cart that includes a large-screen SMART TV, video gaming systems, and the capacity to play other forms of media.
“When teens come to the Library for the afterschool program on Mondays, they are able to use the Media Wall to play video games such as Just Dance and Mario Kart. So far this has been a big hit! The Media Wall has also given us the ability to offer drop-in gaming times as well as movie events geared toward teens. We want the Library to be a place where teens can feel comfortable and engage in fun, safe, and relevant activities. We are thrilled that our local Walmart has chosen to support us in this way,” said Jillian Veras, Director of Children and Teen Services.
Jessica Gueniat, Library Director added: “The Media Wall is a feature that makes the Teen Room so attractive to our young patrons. They know that they can visit the library to borrow books and conduct research; now they also have the ability to relax and have a little bit of fun before they dig back into homework and projects. Walmart’s generosity allowed us to expand our already diverse offerings and we are very grateful!”
“The Walmart Community Grant Program allows associates to support the needs of their communities by providing grants to local 501c3 organizations. Walmart believes in operating globally and giving back locally, creating impact in the neighborhoods where its employees live and work,” said Dan Steck, Store Manager of the Torrington Walmart.
