Although Gilded Age women in the upper and lower classes had many differences, they had one similarity: women were viewed as second best to men and were expected to be content with this role in society. Men, for the most part, were clueless, and believed a woman’s body controlled her mind. This presentation takes a humorous, yet historically accurate look, at the Gilded Age woman--the good, the bad, the shocking, and the graphic.
Some of the most interesting and important things in history are omitted because they’re unpleasant. The Not-So-Golden Life of the Gilded Age Wife are “her story” unsanitized. Her story builds empathy, and helps us understand each other through our fore mothers’ journeys. These presentations not only make audiences laugh and grimace – they also honor our foremothers. They’re not about spinning wheels, quilting bees, bustles, or butlers – these are interactive presentations about the little-known issues faced by New England’s colonial women and the women of America's Gilded Age. Due to adult content, this program is for ages 18+ only and not for the faint of heart. Thank you! Registration begins September 1st Comments are closed.
