What are the Library's hours?

    The Library's hours are :  Monday, Tuesday, and Friday 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
                                           Wednesday and Thursday 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.
                                           Saturday 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
    The Library is closed on all legal holidays and on Saturdays during the months of July and August.  All Library closings are listed  on this website on the General Info page.  Weather related closings during the winter will be announced on WZBG-FM 97.3 or WSNG-AM 610.

 

What do you need to get a library card?

    Torrington Library cards are free to all Torrington residents.  All we will require is proof of your current address (driver's license, mail addressed to you, checkbook, etc.)  Non-residents can get a Torrington Library card provided that they have an up-to-date library card from their hometown library.  Torrington Library cards are only issued to Connecticut residents.

 

What is the loan period for books and magazines?  

Adult Fiction & Non-Fiction (Including Large Print materials) 4 Weeks
Newest Adult Fiction (Seven Day Loan) 7 Days
Newest Adult Non-Fiction (14 Day Loan) 14 Days
Juvenile Fiction and Non-Fiction 4 Weeks
Magazines/Periodicals 2 Weeks

What is the loan period for Audio/Visual materials? (VHS, DVD, audiobooks)

   Movies (VHS or DVD) circulate for two (2) days.  There is a fine of $1.00 per day for overdue Videos/DVD's to a maximum of $5.00 per movie.  Audiobooks (cassette or CD) circulate for four (4) weeks.  A patron may check out a maximum of four (4) audiobooks at one time.

 

Does it cost anything to rent movies?

   There is no fee for VHS/DVD rentals. All you need is an adult library card (you must be 18 or older to rent VHS/DVD materials or have a parent's/guardian's permission). 

 

Does the library have Internet access?

   Yes there are three internet stations available for public use. Please inquire at the main desk to sign-up. Click here for our Internet policy.

 

May I check my E-mail at the library?

   E-mail access is is permitted on our Internet stations. Please refer to our Internet policy.

 

May I renew materials over the phone?

    Yes, items may be renewed over the phone one time.  However, there are exceptions.  Seven Day Loan books, VHS/DVD movies, and books on reserve for other patrons may not be renewed.

 

Does the library charge fines for overdue materials?

    Yes.  Overdue fines are calculated by the following:

Audiobooks and Young Adult
10 cents per day $3.00
Seven Day Loan 10 cents per day $3.00
Magazines/Periodicals 10 cents per day $1.50

What is the procedure to check out museum passes?

   Museum passes are checked out on your Torrington Library card just like any other material.  Passes have a circulation period of 3 days and an overdue fine of $5.00 per day to a maximum of $10.00.  We suggest that you call ahead to see if a pass is available for the date you wish to visit any of the attractions.  Click here to go to the Library Passes page for more information.
