Summer Reading will run June 21st – August 14th.
Sign-ups will be open June 21st – July 3rd The first 150 participants to sign up will receive: A Tails and Tales tote bag Their first bingo card A stamper for marking the card A fun pencil A bookmark to color One raffle ticket Our Summer Reading Participant's Guide - All about the program, including an events calendar Subsequent registrants will receive their first BINGO card and the Participant's Guide. All participants have advance access to most of our Summer Reading Events! Program Summary: Participants will set their own goal for daily reading, with a minimum of 20 minutes per day, which will be recorded on their BINGO card. New Bingo cards will be issued each week, upon return of a completed BINGO card. Each completed and returned card will earn a small prize plus 5 raffle tickets to enter for end-of-program prizes. Participants may also place 1 sticker on our window for each book read. Let's see if we can cover the whole thing! Bonus tickets! Bonus tickets may be earned for: Signing up for a new library card Creating a project that can be displayed in the library or posted to our pages Submitting a read-aloud video to share on our pages Bringing a friend to sign up on or before July 3rd Bringing a friend to get a new Library Card on or before August 14th 5 additional tickets will be given to every participant who returns their end-of-program survey on or before August 16th. Animal Art Wednesday, June 30th at 6:00pm Registration starts May 31st Create fun & easy animal-themed art with Ms. Sue! LRWC Presents: Owl Moon Reading & Tour Tuesday July 6th at 11:00am Registration starts June 21st The Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy will give a reading of Owl Moon, followed by an introduction to a live owl and a tour of their Litchfield Conservancy! This program takes plate off-site, at the Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy, 55 Duck Pond Road, Litchfield. Transportation is not provided. Minecraft: Intro to Redstone Thursday, July 8th @ 5:00pm Registration starts June 21st Join Elijah and Ms. Jordan for Redstone Projects for beginners. Projects will include a TNT Cannon, create a door opener for a Jukebox, build a glow stone door and more! White Memorial: Outdoor Discovery Tuesday, July 13th @ 2:30pm Registration starts June 21st White Memorial will lead participants in several fun physical activities, including a seek-and-find mission to spy natural items, from cones to acorns to feathers to live critters! Participants will truly get to be immersed in their outdoor environment, wherever it is, while learning some fun facts and ID tips about the natural items all around them. Transportation is not provided. Learn to Draw Cartoons with Rick Stromoski! Wednesday, July 14th @6:00pm Registration starts June 21st Award winning Cartoonist and Humorous Illustrator, Rick Stromoski, will teach you how to create your own cartoon characters, draw facial expressions, and even some animals! Chibi Clay with Debra Hamuka-Falkenham (Virtual) Monday, July 19th at 1:00pm Registration Starts June 21st Participants will be working with Crayola Model Magic! We’ll learn how sculpt our own super cute characters with Miss Debi! Science Tellers: Unicorns Break the Cage (Virtual) Wednesday, July 21st at 6:00pm Registration starts June 21st Get ready to experience fun, excitement, and SCIENCE with “Unicorns: Break the Cage” by Talewise Science. Join us on a wild adventure about two kids who visit the city zoo and discover all sorts of incredible animals, including a horse who knows in its heart that it’s truly a unicorn! Manga Cartooning Workshop with Debra Hamuka-Falkenham (Virtual) Thursday, July 22nd at 6:00pm Registration Starts June 21st Participants will learn about big foot to little foot Manga cartoons, the lessons will focus on the Manga cartoon face, expressions and the cartoon manga figure in motion. Kids will work on developing their own Manga or Chibi cartoon character and they will also learn more about the world of Anime. White Memorial presents Do the Locomotion: Move Like Animals Tuesday, July 27th at 2:30pm Registration starts June 21st Participants will get to impersonate animals, and even meet several live animals up close, in order to learn how wildlife, move in unique ways to find food and water. Get ready to jump like a frog, slither like a snake, and swim like a fish with Education Director Carrie Szwed. Transportation is not provided. Cartooning with Rick Stromoski: Let’s Draw Animals! Wednesday, July 28th @6:00pm Registration starts June 21st Learn to draw animals with award winning Cartoonist, Rick Stromoski! Kids will learn how to draw a variety of our fury, hoofed, and feathered friends in this fun, interactive, and popular library program! Comics Class Thursdays, July 29th, August 5th, and August 12th Registration Starts June 21st Join Ms. Charlene and Ms. Jordan in this three-week program as they teach you how to create, write, illustrate, and format your very own comic! White Memorial: Pond Prowl Tuesday, August 3rd at 2:30pm Registration starts June 21st Have you ever seen a dragonfly nymph or a water scorpion? Find out what aquatic macroinvertebrates live in a pond during a hands-on catch-and-release discovery session. Various themes, such as metamorphosis, predator-prey relationships, or adaptations, can be explored depending on the group’s needs. No matter what, plan to get your hands dirty! Transportation is not provided. Institute for American Indian Studies: A Storied Tradition Tuesday August 10th at 11:00 am Registration starts June 21st Darlene Kascak of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation will bring history to life as she shares Traditional Native American Stories in the Longhouse fashion. Since time immemorial, the oral tradition of storytelling has been used by Indigenous people to pass on the history, culture and life lessons from one generation to the next. These stories about animals teach valuable life lessons such as how to live in harmony with nature, how to be a good human being, the consequences for bad behavior, and answer questions about how things came to be. |
