Mystery Month - Book Detective Challenge
May 1st – 31st
May is MYSTERY MONTH! Can you identify a selection of
children’s books by just one piece of their cover?
If you can, you win a mystery prize!
PLEASE NOTE:
Programs are open to participation by older siblings, however, we must reserve snacks, prizes and give-aways for children within our department's age range of 10 and under. Thank you. For the past 6 months, our display case has featured beautiful art made by children from Ukraine and Russia, courtesy of The Fermata Arts Foundation. We are so excited to be hosting its founder, Nikolay Syncov, to learn about the Foundation, the children's art culture of Eastern Europe, and the symbolic language of children's art expressing family values and cultural traditions. With thanks to Northwest CT Community Foundation, for funding this program!
After the presentation, there will be a special opportunity for kids in grades 3-5 to learn from a professional artist and use your imagination to explore "what happens when animals move north?" Professional artist & architect Sean Cummings will be here to lead a special class for children in grades 3-5, creating art that will be shared with children in Ukraine as part of a cultural exchange. A rare & special opportunity, funded by the Northwest CT Community Foundation. Registration is open! Click on the images below to register! |

Art for All Series – session one (6+) Wednesday, May 21st @ 6pm Registration open Art for All is a new monthly art program that will feature a different street artist each month. Our first session is Andy Warhol, the Pop artist who popularized unfussy, color-rich art centered on everyday life and culture, making it accessible to everyone; his work has heavily influenced street artists ever since. In each session, we’ll look for the key elements of each art style, then work on our own street artist-inspired pieces. For Warhol, our young artists will have a variety of Squishmallow themed pieces to choose from and complete in the style of Warhol’s “Marilyn Monroe” and “Reigning Queens.” “It’s a Mystery” Story Time (3+) Thursday, May 22nd @ 6pm Registration open Join Ms Jeni for a mystery-themed story time, activity, and craft!
