Teen GSA

A GSA is a student-led gay straight alliance that meets at the Torrington Library. The GSA is meant to be an inclusive space that is welcoming to all members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. Come make new friends and experience new opportunities to express yourself and share stories. We will also share valuable  resources and have local community members come tell their stories.

GSA Mission:

To create a supportive, welcoming, and affirming community.

GSA Vision:

We want to create a nonjudgmental and understanding environment that spreads awareness and supports personal expression. We want to create a positive impact on our community and continue to push for racial and gender justice in our nation. We always want to continue to evolve towards greater understanding and acceptance towards ourselves and others.

Values of GSA Members:

  • When someone is talking, everyone else should listen. We want to make sure everyone gets time to share their stories, so be mindful of others.
  • Think before you speak. Be open and honest, but don't be rude.
  • Be caring and open minded.
  • What's said here, stays here! If you share thoughts of harming yourself or others we will provide support but we are obligated to reach out to get you help.
    • If we find our members are sharing private stories with others outside the group, we will mediate the situation between you and the other person. If change does not happen we will ask you to find a new GSA.
  • Use "I" statements. Please don't speak for others, unless asked.
  • Have patience with others and for yourself! Learning is a lifelong process.
